Monalisha Gogoi - Destiny’s Child

It is sheer hard work and confidence that takes one to soaring heights. Destiny, as we know plays a great role in shaping one’s life and future. Monalisha, also fondly called  MONA is destiny’s child. She was born on 7^th  February 1980 in Jorhat to late Kamal Ch Gogoi and Ila Gogoi. She is the eldest of the four children in her family. Monalisha started her life with very humble beginnings.  She started her schooling  from Dolo Pukhuri L.P school and later joined Nazira Girls school. She was unsuccessful in clearing her board exams in the first attempt which she later completed from Nazira Bortala High School. She went to Nazira College and graduated as a student of Sociology. Later she studied hotel management from the Institute of Hotel Management and  Technology, Guwahati after which she  joined hotel Brahmaputra as a house keeping manager in Sibsagar.

The struggles of  life knows no bounds, sky is the limit for one who fights it out.  The rise of a girl with humble beginnings to a hotelier and a singer has seen numerous struggles and hardships .During the days as a student she lost her father and had to look after her family. But she slogged it out like a warrior . She sold vegetables and meat in Guwahati and Nazira while she still was studying and also lent a helping hand to needy ones whenever she could. Meanwhile she got married but her conjugal life was not as comfortable as luck would have it and she had to balance her personal life and professional life with great effort. Life in the personal front was hard and she endured both mental and physical torture from her husband which led to her separation but she rose from the strife like a phoenix. With her hotel management background she came to Guwahati and joined Hotel Starline. In 2006 she joined Hotel Monsoon  Palace as a front office manager and was gradually promoted to operation manager. Soon she rose to the post of director with her dedication and hard work . She has also opened an eatery in her home town Nazira and is also planning to start a new state of art restaurant in Guwahati. She met her present husband Shri Gajen Kalita an established entrepreneur while working at Hotel Monsoon Palace who also happens to be its owner. It is due the strong support and encouragement of her husband that she has been able to establish herself as a singer and  has debuted as a singer, lyricist and composer of an album ORE PIYA in 2016. The album fetched her laurels and on 27^th May 2016, she was awarded  ENAJORI AWARD at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and on 26^th June the same year she was awarded best album award by NEBCUS MEDIA in a program held at Rabindra Bhawan.

Through dint of her hard work and determination she has been able to overcome all adversities that she encountered in course of her life and today she is what she has made herself of,  a true woman of substance. She is a woman with many things in her kitty – ranging from becoming a renowned name as a hotelier and   singer for which she has bagged two prestigious awards.She is a women of never say die attitude who has inspired numerous women to stand for themselves against all odds

Apart from being an entrepreneur herself and providing employment to around 120 employees,Monalisha is also involved in several social and charitable activities. She is providing education to many children of needy families and offering philanthropic services bearing medical expenses of patients. Apart from that she has helped in the construction of school boundary wall in her village, guest house for pilgrims at Dhekiakhowa Namghar, a gate at a Namghar in Sibsagar and construction of temples.
